Venuetix: Three Decades of Adelaide Ticketing
The story of Adelaide’s independent ticketing agency, part of the Weslo Group.
From the 1990s Venuetix sold tickets for South Australian concerts, festivals, theatre and sport, from Thebarton Theatre shows to international football at Hindmarsh Stadium.
About Venuetix
Ticketing that starts the event experience
Buying a ticket is the first contact a customer has with an event, and it sets the tone for everything that follows. Venuetix was built to give that part of the event back to the organiser.
Venuetix combined traditional box office ticketing with its own technology and the event experience of the Weslo Group. Alongside Weslo Staff and Weslo Events, it let one group look after an event from the first ticket sold to the last patron through the gate.
How tickets were sold
Every way audiences could buy
Venuetix operated as an event ticketing agency, selling tickets through a combination of channels so customers could book however suited them.
Online ticket sales
Tickets sold online, including through branded sales pages for promoters and venues.
Telephone bookings
A phone room for customers who preferred to book by talking to a person.
Ticket outlets
Physical outlets across Adelaide where customers could buy tickets over the counter.
Venue and gate sales
Box office and gate sales on the day, with tickets scanned at the entry points.
Group bookings
Group bookings for selected events, including schools, clubs and organisations.
Ticketing and entry
From pre-sale to the front gate
Ticketing works best when it’s planned with the people running the gates. Together with Weslo Staff, Venuetix services covered:
Pre-event online ticket sales
At-event ticket sales and box office
Ticket scanning and entry points
Ticket stock and ID products
Merchandise sales
Audience development and memberships
Fees were flexible: a charge per patron, a fee for service, or a combination of both, depending on the services an organiser needed.
Ticketing firsts
Innovation built in Adelaide
Venuetix used ticketing software developed in Australia and was an early adopter of new technology:
Among the first computerised ticketing systems in Australia to print corporate and sponsor logos on tickets
Among the first Australian agencies to let clients include barcodes in their ticket design
Ticketing technology that helped Hindmarsh Stadium become one of the first stadiums in Australia with a fully integrated automated entry system
Our history
Three decades of Adelaide ticketing
Venuetix’s involvement in South Australian events is recorded in programs, announcements and archives from 1995 onwards.
Venuetix has also been styled Venue*Tix and VenueTix.
The experience continues
Ticketing and entry experience, still at work
Venuetix was part of the same group as Weslo Staff and Weslo Events. That ticketing and entry experience lives on in our event staffing team, who run box offices, ticket scanning and entry gates, working with event security and event-day coordination.
